E-bikes influenced us too and we wanted to test the Spectral:ON 9.0 .
Canyon, again, has left nothing to chance: internal cable passage, dedicated bottle holder, USB port on the top tube and the Quixle Canyon, The pivot developed by Canyon with the lever that remains hidden inside it that you take off and use it comfortably to remove the wheel make it perfect.
As opposed to many brands Canyon e-bikes still have the 504 wh external battery, but aesthetically the bike is very neat and clean. The external battery has its advantages: first of all the frame is much more similar to normal bikes and battery looks like a second water bottle, but also the battery change is easier and faster.
Canyon is safe with the Shimano steps E8000 motor, compact and easily manageable in all situations and finally the ECO mode can be customized through the Shimano App, Just install the new update follow the instructions!
The battery set down and the engine fix the center of gravity in the middle, which guarantees greater stability to the rider especially on descent.
Canyon chooses the mix: 27.5” at the rear with MAXXIS DHR minion II 2.8'' and 29” with MAXXIS DHF minion 2.5'at the front makes it nice smooth and stable uphill helping us overcome obstacles better, while downhill the 27.5”guarantees agility and handling.
The suspension Fox Kashima speak for themselves:the Fox Factory 36 float 150 mm makes the bike precise and sustained and with the new Fit4 damper you can adjust compression and return to have a feeling more and more personalized.
The shox lock works very well, I’ve found it essential in the steepest climbs to keep the bike attached to the ground, and it’s easy to reach on the saddle without having to stop.
Definitely for those who are new to this assembly is not simple, I always recommend to contact the shop for the set up.
Shimano components have always performed well: the new XTR brakes are always reactive and aggressive when needed, while the Shimano XTR M9100 SGS gearbox is very precise and robust, also used with engine thrust in Boost did not blow the chain as often happens.
In this month we have done everything to find a flaw in the spectral:ON, we used it at Carosello3000 on flow trails with jumps and on the The Bomb that has narrow curves and technical passages and then move to 712 in Val di Sole, a Single Track in a pine wood and to finish on home trails up to 30% slope, but this Canyon did not have a moment of hesitation.
The spectral:on like so many other bikes mounted 27.5”- 29” tends to make you stand a wire too far back uphill, but it’s just a matter of habit! The choice of a wide handlebar and a saddle designed for the climb helps to facilitate the correct position in the saddle, but it is not an immediate thing.
Downhill runs over everything, the chainstay is compact and the smaller wheel immediately create the right feeling to have fun.
Spectral:ON is the top of the range, mounting with specific components for the e-mtb and Fox suspension make it a true warrior. You have the possibility to shoot anywhere in less time and without giving up the extreme descents.
Canyon has always offered quality at a price accessible to all, this 9.0 is online at 6.199€ and at the same installation remains a price well below the top of the range of many other brands.
