After a month with the Canyon Sender AL 6.0 I can definitely say that next season I want to get a Downhill bike! The base model of the Sender is amazing in terms of the quality / price ratio, and above all for its high-performance riding. Cable housing and brake hose routing is far simpler than other bikes I have worked with, cutting cable replacement time in half.
It mounted the RockShox Boxxer RC and the Super Deluxe Coil R with 200 mm of travel. The shocks offer just the right amount of adjustments, making for a fast and accurate Setup. I feel that multiple suspension adjustments are only useful if you know how to use them, and most of the time it is better not to have them.
The frame is not overly large, visually or from the saddle, and there is plenty of foot clearance in the rear end.
Now, let's talk about the ride feel. The bike is easy to steer, not too long, brakes confidently, and it's easy to stay back behind the saddle.
The fork rebound provided quick recovery, allowing the shock to extend more rapidly which helped maximize maximum control in rough sections. The coil shock worked in harmony with the fork to maintain perfect traction.
A headtube angle of 63 ° made me a bit skeptical about its cornering ability, but while riding the Sender AL 6.0 felt confident and safe in the turns. The Sender corners precisely and felt intuitive, with fast and perceptible changes in direction.
On the jumps the bike felt great, immediately responding to my movements and landing confidently. When I did have to pedal the bike offered great power transfer.
The most technical sections are where the Sender AL 6.0 shows its best self! The bike felt light, almost like it was flowing on the stones while it was really crushing them. Several friends spoke poorly of Sram Guide brakes because they have a tendency to form air bubbles with temperature changes. This bike has been used in different situations and temperatures, even in the Spiazzi di Gromo chairlift with a temperature difference of 7 degrees at the top. The combination of 4-piston code brake caliper and the guide brake lever was a winner for me.
The Canyon Sender AL 6.0 proved to be a very agile and reactive bike in all situations! The bike felt great as soon as I mounted the saddle, and I felt that I could use less brake than before!
At € 2500 the bike has nothing to envy of a top of the range model for driveability and maneuverability! Canyon, can you please send it back to me? :)
