Montasio Tour.


Today I dreamed riding through Montasio’s “malghe” in Friuli
This tour starts at 80 km from Udine. We rode to Sella Nevea, the snowiest place in Alps, along 50% dirt and 50% paved road.
When you arrive to Montasio upland you can visit “malghe” where cows pasture in summer and where the best known typical cheese is produced: Montasio D.O.P.



There is a trail for the more expert and gluttonous that brings us to the highest refuge with a fantastic panoramic view and where we can eat gorgeous typical dishes.
I choose the “frico” one: traditional Friulan recipe.
In the past this dish was used to consume the remains of the cheese.
It is prepared with potatoes, onions and melted Montasio cheese, mixed together and cooked in a skillet to create a sort of omelette with a crispy crust on the outside and soft and creamy heart inside.



We continue the down towards Sella Nevea, with a series of hairpin bends on a dirt road, until we reach our starting point.
The difference in high is about 450m and the distance is 10km: perfect to digest the Frico.
A breathtaking view, great food and a challenging course but suitable for all is what I Made fall in love of this magical place.
